MediConnect Offers to Donate Medical Records Lost during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma
Records can help individuals affected by the disasters obtain medical care, insurance and protect their legal interests.
SALT LAKE CITY-31 October, 2005-MediConnect, a leading global provider of medical record retrieval services for the legal and insurance industries, today announced that it will provide digital copies of archived medical records, free of charge, back to any patient and/or organization that has lost paper medical records as a result of hurricanes Katrina, Rita or Wilma.
Since MediConnect was founded in 1996, the company has retrieved or received requests to retrieve nearly 10,000 medical records from organizations in the areas most affected by hurricane Katrina, and thousands more from the areas affected by hurricane Rita and Wilma. MediConnect has offered to provide these archived medical records back to individuals, physicians, hospitals, law firms, insurance carriers or independent agents who submit request accompanied by a HIPAA-compliant patient authorization.
"There is a pressing need for individuals and organizations to obtain medical records that were lost during the recent national disasters in the Gulf region," said MediConnect CEO Amy Rees Lewis. "A patient's medical record is absolutely critical to their continuation of proper medical treatment, and potentially to the protection of their legal rights. This is why we want to provide access to the records we have retrieved in the areas of the country impacted by these disasters."
MediConnect is the world's leading provider of medical record retrieval services for the legal industry, and one of the leading providers for the insurance industry. The company has developed leading edge technology and an industry-unique, patented system for record retrieval and electronic delivery of medical records. In response to customer requests for medical records, MediConnect contacts each hospital or physician; retrieves each medical record; creates organized, electronic copies of the records; and delivers them to the requestor securely over the Internet. This system has enabled the company to develop an extensive archive of medical records in a HIPAA-compliant, secure environment.
To make these archived records available, MediConnect has created a link from the company's main central Website,
www.mediconnect.net, which will describe how qualified requestors can obtain the medical records that have been retrieved from the Gulf region.
"Whether you are an individual who has lost your records, or a physician, hospital, law firm or insurance underwriter that needs to reclaim your patient records to do business and provide quality service for patients, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible," said Lewis. "We want to help in any way we can to aid the recovery and quality of life for people affected by Rita, Katrina, or Wilma."
